TREEathon with a Difference!

Building an inclusive Lake means creating more stakeholders, those who can connect with the Lake and be part in Conservation. TREEathon on 9th June was the witness to this inclusiveness and an attempt to encourage Special needs Children to be involved in Environment related activities. over 35 Children from Samarthanam Trust took part in the Tree Plantation drive at Agara Lake and fully supported by the Volunteers. This event was also funded by the Volunteers of Agara Lake Citizen Group, and Mohan took care of providing lite snacks for children.

Over 100 Saplings were planted, to increase greenery in the Lake and in Bengaluru city. One of the best way to #BeatAirPollution is to plant more Trees in addition to taking care of our Waste Management!

'I was very happy to see the enthusiasm and eagerness among the children to plant saplings, hope they keep their Green spirit as they grow up', said Kavitha Reddy, VP ALPMS.

Reclaiming Haraluru Lake

Fantastic Green Day! that is what 8th June 2019 was, there are many causes one can fight for, and Environment and Lakes need a major share of what we need to fight for as humanity. Environment is the core of our existence and we have exploited enough for decades. Now the alarm is set, unless we do not take a firm step to revive Lake and address the issues of Environment our survival is just on the edge.

Bengaluru is heading towards a Water Crisis, with Lakes which were the RWH zone are dying, even though the quantity of Rainfall has not changed much in Bengaluru what has changed is how we are saving Rain water! So unless we Revive and Conserve Lake the ground water tables will not get better, nor the Greener will improve in the City!

It was indeed a great step by Haraluru Lake Conservation Committee to bring together all the citizens around to reignite the spirit and participation to Conserve Haraluru Lake by taking up TREEathon a 200 Sapling plantation drive.

Also by submitting a memorandum to the head of BBMP Lakes Division on the issues, the team has taken a big leap towards making things better at Haraluru Lake.

With citizen participation I see a huge change at all levels and a positive energy to make a difference will indeed go a long way.

Finally Haraluru Lake WINS!

MMK Green Anniversary

Mythri Mahila Koota celebrated their 8th anniversary and World Environment Day by planting Saplings at Agara Lake mini-Forest.

Agara Lake mini-Forest 4 years ago was a waste dumping ground, with support from SayTrees and funding by Mythri Mahila Koota over 200 saplings were planted, since then Kaagaz Foundation has been taking care of the saplings, planting more saplings, replacing dead saplings, cleaning up the place with some support from citizens who were part of clean-up drives. Today it has over 250 Trees adding Oxygen to surroundings, attracting Birds and adding to the Bengaluru Lung space.

On this occasion little boy Kanishk Reddy planted 5 saplings to mark his Green Birthday.

Increasing the Green cover and keeping surroundings Clean are very important steps towards Cleaner Air and Cooler City, this year theme of World Environment Day being #BeatAirPollution, creating awareness about Air Pollution which is in fact killing more people across the globe is very critical.
