Minister visit to Agara Lake

On 27th June Minor Irrigation Minister Shri Puttaraju visited Agara Lake, in the recent amendments to the Tank Development Act replacing Karnataka Lake Conservation and Development Authority (KLCDA) with Minor Irrigation as regulatory authority.

Even though many Citizens & Lake Activist are opposing the amendments citing the lack of expertise in Minor Irrigation Department and that Urban Lakes are different from Rural Lakes, ALPMS team had invited the Minister vie RS MP Kupendra Reddy to visit the revived Lake which is today a benchmark for most Lakes in Bengaluru.

'Agara Lake Protection and Management Society (ALPMS) the citizen group that has been campaigning for revival of the Lake for over 5 years also requested the Minister to looking into shifting of the RTO vehicles on service road that are creating a huge problem for Lake visitor and also submitted a memorandum asking the Minister to inform BDA to create parking space for Lake visitor vehicles under the flyover and also apprised the Minister about the need for regular funds for maintenance of the Lake' said Kavitha Reddy Lake Activist & VP ALPMS.

Fixing Road Divider, KEB Junction

The stretch from KEB junction to Rock View Hotel on 27th main has been a serious concern due to temporary divider that was put almost a year ago and it was turning into a nightmare for citizens driving/riding vehicles, especially during late evening when even street light are not functioning. None of the local elected representatives made any effort to address the issue for long time and the spot was turning into an accident prone zone.

'I was finally fed up with the excuses, so tweeted about to the issue to Add CM Traffic and also wrote to BBMP. Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) quickly responded to my tweet and BBMP team along with Traffic Cop to inspect the spot and in few days as discussed with BBMP permanent dividers were installed' said Kavitha Reddy, Congress Spokesperson and Lake Activist.

Hope now even the citizens who were violating the one-way will follow the rules and ensure there are no more traffic jams and road rage. Many thanks to BTP and BBMP for a quick action.
